Wicked seas brought many ships to their final resting place in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, off North Carolina's Outer Banks. Such was the fate of one seafaring vessel carrying a cargo of whiskey from Kilmarnic, Scotland. But all was not lost, for the barrels of drink eventually found their way to the shores of what is now Currituck County.
Upon discovering this gift so graciously provided by the capricious sea, the local people commenced a celebration, which continued for some days. In honor of this exceptional celebration, they named the area Kilmarlic.
So began the Legend of Kilmarlic: of the gifts provided by Nature for those who live in harmony with sea, sky and land.
To celebrate the natural beauty and character of a landscpape that has thrived since the days of the legendary whiskey find, 300 acres of Kilmarlic grounds have been designated a nature preserve. As word of mouth has maintained the legend of the whiskey-friendly locals, so to will this designation of land keep the spirit of this natural environment alive.
Kilmarlic - Spawned by legend, built for the celebration of life and nature.
